When Rebecca and Nathan Hohenstein first opened Tortoise & Hare Sports in 2012, they wanted to make sure that they encompassed all types of runners – back, middle, and front of the pack. Their goal was to bring together all of the smaller groups in Glendale – so they could build relationships with others, encourage each other, and create and accomplish goals together.
“We are seeing the fruits of our labor and it’s awesome to see growing friendships who have a deep love for running and each other. Some of them have even organized events to attend together not only in AZ, but across the country and internationally. We have 18 of our runners (who all met through our running groups) traveling to Paris in the fall and running the Disney 1/2 together.”
Over 5 years later and that community of runners is still at the core of everything Tortoise & Hare Sports does. Hosting multiple weekly runs, clinics, and classes – as well as sponsoring a number of races throughout the year – they stand by their commitment to create a community that promotes health and wellness.
“We believe that building strong and lasting relationships will build our community and make it even stronger. We truly care about everyone who enters Tortoise and Hare and want to educate them, whether they are just starting to run, want to PR a half marathon, have plantar fasciitis, or need a shoe to fit with their AFO. We want customers to know that this is the place where everyone will know their name when they walk into our store and that they inspire us every day!”
