People in Bend run trails. They move there to do just that. And FootZone sits at the heart of the outdoor-focused town, sporting arguably the largest trail shoe selection on the West Coast at a run specialty shop. Once part of a larger retail chain, FootZone now stands as the last remaining of its kind, thanks to owner of 23 years, Teague Hatfield.
From the beginning, FootZone has been community-oriented. And in a town that has attracted world-class flock of runners mixed with everyday runners who love the trails, it’s no wonder.
Michelle Poirot, Marketing Coordinator, has been a runner since high school and continues to do so by leading the store’s training groups.
“I started working on the floor selling shoes,” she said. “ I quickly got involved with the training groups. The best part of which is watching new runners get confident and strong, while building the community!”
More than that, FootZone hosts over 80 free events in the store each year (often with beer involved) and hosts 2 races per year that support Girls on the Run, Neighbor Impact, and the Deschutes Land Trust - a Central Oregon conservation group. The store caters to everyone from beginners to Bend’s resident elite athletes alike, with the goal of everyone leaving the store a more educated runner.
“We have an outrageously passionate staff that walk the talk,” Poirot said. “When a customer chooses to shop with us, we know they’re looking for a personal, professional shoe-fitting experience, and that they’re passionate about shopping local. We feel lucky to serve them!”
