After beginning a career as an aerospace engineer for NASA and McDonnell Douglass, David Spetnagel found himself looking for a more self-driven life. Having always felt most at home in the running community, David and his wife Debbie decided to open their own running store. Despite knowing the odds were against them, they carefully crafted their startup and on April 12th, 1993, opened their first Fleet Feet Sports location in St. Charles, MO.
“The early days were a roller coaster. I still remember the day we did -$1.87 in sales (yes, that's a NEGATIVE number) and thinking to myself it would have been better if I had just kept the doors locked all day and gone for a long run!”
25 years and 5 stores later, they’re still running strong and are a staple in the St. Louis running community. Managing the Fleet Feet Running Club, as well as a race productions department, the team at Fleet Feet St. Louis works hard to make sure that people have enjoyable, inspirational, and empowering opportunities to use their gear. And whether it’s running a marathon or walking in your neighborhood, the staff are ready to help anyone move more comfortably.
“We want every customer who walks into one of our stores or joins one of our Fleet Feet Running Club activities or participates in one of our races to enjoy and benefit from being a part of our community as much as we enjoy having them.”
